Erica Eyres is a Canadian artist based in Glasgow. She moved to Glasgow in 2002 to undertake the prestigious Masters in Fine Art course at The Glasgow School of Art. Since graduating she has shown her work widely in the UK and internationally, including exhibitions and screenings at Queen's Park Railway Club, Glasgow; Glasgow International; Lisa Kehler Art & Projects, Winnipeg, Canada; BFI Southbank, London. She is currently pursuing a practice based PhD at Northumbria University focusing on deadpan comedy and personal narratives in video art.

Erica's drawings frequently borrow from images found in textbooks and manuals from the 1970s and 80s.  The characters depicted portray a sense of the uncanny so that the viewer recognises aspects of themselves or others, thereby adding to their voyeuristic discomfort. These sinister depictions are always presented with a sense of dark humour, creating an intricate balance so that the viewer feels both repulsion and compassion. Erica wants to extract an awkward laughter in order to explore the tensions between what is funny and what is stark and confrontational.
